Peeling away.

  1. To me a successful photo has something to say, an expression of some key feeling or thought. I ask what is the intent for that one image. As in writing, intent determines choosing one word over another, one sentence over another. You seem to be mindful of intent; you're not just throwing elements into the frame, hoping something will stick. The point of an image, for me, is expression and communication. What matters is the engagement of the viewer. Selecting your elements, you frame this tree artfully, letting it emerge into just part of the frame, using shallow depth of field not only to suggest the wider world of the landscape but also to bring focus to your subject. The shadows establish depth and the viewer is engaged, thinking, feeling the metaphorical expression of those moments of life which indeed do seem to "peel away", life itself slowly being disassembled. A
    resonant image, a successful photograph.
