Last patch of bark.

  1. What was and what is - the natural state of wood vs the dismembered state of wood. You ask us to remember the tree when it was a living organism, when its skin covered a breathing tree. The contrasting textures of the image nicely underscore this central concept. Love it when you comment, Heather.
In interview, John Updike once commented, "And in fact there is a colour, a quiet but timeless goodness that things at rest, like brick wall or a small stone, seem to affirm."
The objects "at rest" in your photographs are full of this "colour", this "quiet", this "timeless goodness". Your images are really quiet art, slowing the world for us so that we "see" the opening flower absorbing the energy of the sun, the shivering stand of poplars, the rare beauty of a butterfly feeding, the eerie and black stillness of a lake, etc. Your art stills the world and we can hear our heart beat. We notice, something I suspect you do all the time as part of your very being. Your art keeps our eyes open and the visuals presented move straight into our hearts.
    I'm talking too much again.
